Iowa City, IOWA – The Iowa women’s basketball team dominated Toledo with a 94-57 victory at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday night. The Hawkeyes improve to 3-0 on the season.
In the first quarter, Iowa outscored Toledo, 28-10. Junior Hannah Stuelke and Lucy Olsen led the way with six points a piece. Iowa’s defense dominated limiting Toledo to just 15.8% shooting from the field. Iowa went on a 23-2 run to end the first quarter holding the Rockets to two points in the final seven minutes.
In the second quarter, Iowa continued to punish Toledo, 21-11 to extend their lead. Fremont native, Taylor McCabe was a sharpshooter from beyond the arc, hitting a pair of three-pointers and adding six points to the scoreboard. Olsen was also effective, scoring six points. By halftime, Iowa had built a commanding, 49-21 lead.
The second half saw Iowa maintain their momentum, with the third quarter ending 22-18 in favor of the Hawkeyes. Senior Sydney Affolter’s consistent play added another five points to Iowa’s tally. In the final quarter, the Hawkeyes sealed their victory with a 23-18 performance. The bench continued to be a significant factor contributing 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Stuelke led Iowa with 15 points and nine rebounds, while McCabe and Olsen added 14 points each. Five Hawkeyes scored in double figures tonight, and every available player entered tonight’s matchup.
