Hawkeye WBB Dominates Toledo

Iowa City, IOWA – The Iowa women’s basketball team dominated Toledo with a 94-57 victory at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday night. The Hawkeyes improve to 3-0 on the season.

In the first quarter, Iowa outscored Toledo, 28-10. Junior Hannah Stuelke and Lucy Olsen led the way with six points a piece. Iowa’s defense dominated limiting Toledo to just 15.8% shooting from the field. Iowa went on a 23-2 run to end the first quarter holding the Rockets to two points in the final seven minutes.

In the second quarter, Iowa continued to punish Toledo, 21-11 to extend their lead. Fremont native, Taylor McCabe was a sharpshooter from beyond the arc, hitting a pair of three-pointers and adding six points to the scoreboard. Olsen was also effective, scoring six points. By halftime, Iowa had built a commanding, 49-21 lead.

The second half saw Iowa maintain their momentum, with the third quarter ending 22-18 in favor of the Hawkeyes. Senior Sydney Affolter’s consistent play added another five points to Iowa’s tally. In the final quarter, the Hawkeyes sealed their victory with a 23-18 performance. The bench continued to be a significant factor contributing 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Stuelke led Iowa with 15 points and nine rebounds, while McCabe and Olsen added 14 points each. Five Hawkeyes scored in double figures tonight, and every available player entered tonight’s matchup.

POSTGAME NOTES
– The Hawkeyes are 3-0 to start Jan Jensen’s tenure, making her the second coach in program history to that, joining Angie Lee who started 7-0 in 1995-96.
– Hannah Stuelke registered her 39th career game in double figures which is fifth-most in program history since 2020.
– Stuelke was one rebound shy of a double-double and was 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
– Stuelke led the team in scoring 15 points (4-6 FG), nine rebounds, and two assists.
– Lucy Olsen scored 14 points going 6-of-9 from the floor.
– Addi O’Grady recorded 10 points (3-5 FG) and went 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
– O’Grady is shooting a team-best 17-for-20 from the floor this season.
– O’Grady leads the country at 85 percent from the floor with a minimum of 15 shots taken this season.
– Sydney Affolter made her first start of the 2024-25 season.
– Affolter netted 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
– Iowa’s defense held Toledo to 21 points in the first which is a season-best.
– Taylor McCabe registered four 3-pointers which was a team-high.
– It was McCabe’s fifth career game with four or more 3-pointers.
– Olsen, McCabe, and Stuelke accounted for 31 or Iowa’s 49 points in the first half.
– Iowa had five players register double figures.
– Iowa had 18 assists on 31 field goals.
– Since 2020, the Hawkeyes lead the country in games with 80+ points scored offensively. (108)
