Hawkeyes Set to Compete at The Hootie

The Iowa men's golf team will compete in The Hootie at Bulls Bay on March 23 - 25 in Charleston, South Carolina.

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa men's golf team will compete in The Hootie at Bulls Bay on March 23 - 25 in Charleston, South Carolina. The joint event is hosted by the University of South Carolina and College of Charleston and will take place on the 18-hole Bulls Bay Course at Bulls Bay Golf Club.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
The 54-hole tournament begins on Sunday and concludes on Tuesday, with one round played each day. Round one will take place on Sunday, with tee times from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. off holes No. 1 and No. 10. The second round will be played on Monday, following the same tee time schedule. The tournament will conclude with the final round on Tuesday, featuring tee times from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. off holes No. 1 and No. 10 as well.

THE FIELD
Iowa is set to compete against a strong field featuring Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Elon, ETSU, Furman, Kent State, Missouri, New Mexico, NC State, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Western Carolina.
- The Hawkeyes previously faced ETSU, Missouri, and Rutgers at the Colleton River Collegiate. Earlier in the spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic, Iowa also competed against College of Charleston, Purdue, and South Carolina.
- ETSU enters the tournament looking to claim its third title in four years.
- This marks Iowa’s first appearance in the The Hootie.

THE EVENT
Hosted by the University of South Carolina and the College of Charleston, The Hootie at Bulls Bay has been a staple in collegiate golf since its inception in 2005. Named after the iconic band Hootie & the Blowfish, the event is more than just a competition - it's a celebration of golf and giving back. The tournament is supported by the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation, which funds nonprofit charities and organizations throughout South Carolina. Through multi-year grants, the Foundation has contributed to initiatives in scholastic arts education, mental health, veteran services, and child welfare, continuing the band’s legacy of community impact.

THE COURSE

Bulls Bay Golf Club, located just outside Charleston, S.C., is a premier course known for its unique design and serene atmosphere. Designed by Mike Strantz, the course blends windswept savannahs with centuries-old live oaks, offering a thrilling experience for golfers. Renowned for its rustic charm and state-of-the-art learning facility, Bulls Bay has trained some of the nation’s top golfers and remains one of the most prestigious clubs in the Lowcountry.

THE RETURNERS
- Since transferring from Cornell in 2023, John Lundmark has started in 13 meets for the Hawkeyes. He posted a season-low 69 in the final round of the Fallen Oak Intercollegiate and matched that score in the final round of the Puredo Rico Classic, where he finished tied for 27th after shooting four under par for the tournament.
- Gage Messingham opened the season strong with a ninth-place finish at the Gopher Invite and followed up with a top-25 performance at both the Purdue Invite and Colleton River Collegiate. He carded a season-low 69 in the first round of the Notre Dame Invite.
- Max Toja recorded his best finish of the season at the Gopher Invite, placing 17th, and matched that result at the Colleton River Collegiate. He also secured a top-25 finish at the Purdue Invite, where he posted a season-low 69 in the third round.

SIGNING DAY RECAP
Bennett Warren, from  Olathe, Kansas, has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Iowa men’s golf program, it was announced by head coach Tyler Stith.

FALL SEASON WRAP-UP
Iowa had a strong fall season, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the Gopher Invitational, led by Gage Messingham, who placed ninth individually. The Hawkeyes also secured a third-place finish out of 15 teams at the Purdue Invite, shooting 6-over par. At the Fighting Irish Classic, Iowa placed eighth, defeating No. 20 Duke, RV Washington, and RV Michigan State. The Hawkeyes concluded their fall season at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational, where they took down RV UNLV.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Hawkeyes will travel to Napes, Florida to host the Calusa Cup. The 54-hole tournament will tee off on April 6th and conclude on April 8th.
