Hawkeyes Tied For 10th at Briars Creek Invite

The University of Iowa women’s golfers fired an opening round 297 during the first round of the Briars Creek Invitational. The Hawkeyes are tied for 10th place.

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The University of Iowa women’s golfers fired an opening round 297 during the first round of the Briars Creek Invitational.  The Hawkeyes are tied for 10th place. 

The tournament’s start was pushed up a day due to the anticipated weather in South Carolina on Monday.  It also has been shortened from a 54 hole to a 36-hole event. 

 

 

 

Sophomore Ximena Benites paced the team, firing a one-under par 71 on Sunday.  The Peru native carded four birdies during the round, putting her in a tie for 12th place.  Benites has been at or below par in three of her last four rounds. 

Florida State sits atop the team standing with an eight-under par 280, nine shots ahead of second place Kent State. The Golden Flashes’ Isabella Goyette is leading the tournament with a six-under par (66).
