Hawkeyes Complete2Rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic

The women’s golf team sits tied for 12th out of 18 teams after two rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic.

Rio Grande, Puerto Rico -- The University of Iowa women’s golf team sits tied for 12th out of 18 teams after two rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic, hosted at the Grand Reserve Golf Club. The Hawkeyes posted scores of 286 and 293 for a 36-hole total of 579.

Senior Riley Lewis led the Hawkeyes with a 4-under 68 in the opening round, recording five birdies and 11 pars. She continued her strong play in the second round, carding a 3-under 69 with four birdies and 13 pars, and currently is tied for third place.

Junior Ximena Benites posted a 1-under 71 in the opening round, recording three birdies and 12 pars. She followed it up with an even-par 72 in the second 18, recording two birdies and 13 pars, and currently sits in 34th place.

Junior Maura Peters carded an even-par 72 in the opening round, registering four birdies and nine pars. She finished the second round with a 3-over-par 75, sinking four birdies and eight pars.

Arkansas leads the team standings with a 36-hole total of 554. Abbey Schutte of Arkansas leads the individual leaderboard with a 12-under-par 132 (65-67).
