Hawkeyes Set for Spartan Suncoast Collegiate

The University of Iowa women’s golf team travels to Sarasota, Fla., for the Spartan Suncoast Collegiate on Feb. 15–16.

THIS WEEK  
The University of Iowa women’s golf team travels to Sarasota, Fla., for the Spartan Suncoast Collegiate on Feb. 15–16. The 54-hole tournament will be held at Palm Aire Country Club (par 72, 6,191 yards), beginning Sunday with a 7:15 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.

THE LINEUP 
Iowa’s lineup includes senior Riley Lewis, junior Ximena Benites,  junior Maura Peters, senior Kaitlyn Hanna, and freshman Sunny Wang. 

THE FIELD  
The 15-team field includes: College of Charleston, Clemson University, Florida International University, Kent State University, Michigan State University, Northwestern, Ohio State University, Princeton, Purdue University, University of Illinois, University of Iowa, University of Kentucky, University of Maryland, University of Michigan, and University of Oklahoma.

THE COURSE  
Palm Aire Country Club is regarded as a premier golf destination in Sarasota, Fla., known for its two championship courses, strategic layout, and well-maintained playing conditions. Located in southwest Florida, the club offers a challenging yet enjoyable test of golf for players of all skill levels. With a strong tradition of competitive play and quality facilities, Palm Aire continues to serve as a respected venue for amateur and collegiate tournaments.

LAST MEET
The Hawkeyes finished 12th at the Puerto Rico Classic, recording a three-round total of 869 (286–293–290) over 54 holes. Senior Riley Lewis led the team with an eighth-place finish, the best of her career, posting a 54-hole total of 211 (68–69–74) with 11 birdies. Junior Ximena Benites recorded a 54-hole total of 215 (71–72–72) and moved up five spots on the leaderboard on Monday to finish tied for 29th. Junior Maura Peters shot a 218 (72–75–71) to tie for 44th place, closing the tournament with two birdies on the final day to finish one-under par.

OF NOTE…  
• Senior Riley Lewis earned a career-best eighth-place finish after carding rounds of (68-69-74) for a 54-hole total of 211 to open up her spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic. 
• Junior Maura Peters led Iowa with an even-par 72 in the final round of the Diane Thomason Invitational, finishing tied for fifth with a 54-hole total of 220 (75-73-72). It marks her second straight top-10 finish and the third of her career duirng the fall season. 
• Senior Riley Lewis and freshman Sunny Wang both captured top-20 finishes at the Diane Thomason Invitational. 
• Junior Ximena Benites paced the team at the Boilermaker Classic, finishing tied for 18th at 221 (69-78-74) with a career-tying three-under 69 in round one duirng the fall season.

The Hawkeyes will return to action Mar. 16-17, traveling to Johns Island, S.C., for the Briars Creek Invitational.
