IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former University of Iowa football standout Bob Jeter will be inducted into the 2025 South Carolina Football Hall of Fame Class on April 16, 2026, it was announced on Thursday.
Jeter, who passed away in 2008, was a three-year letterman with the Hawkeyes from 1957-59. He broke two Rose Bowl records in 1959; longest touchdown run from scrimmage (81 yards) and yards per carry (21.6 yards – 194 yards on nine carries). The 81-yard rush for a score still stands as an Iowa bowl game record for longest rush. Jeter was named the 1959 Rose Bowl Most Valuable Player after helping lift the Hawkeyes to a 38-12 win over California. Jeter and the Hawkeyes were recognized as the 1958 Football Writers Association of America national champions.
Jeter averaged 7.2 yards per carry (469 yards on 65 carries) during the1958 campaign. He was a first-team all-conference honoree after leading the Hawkeyes in rushing (609 yards on 108 attempts) in 1959. Jeter rushed for 1,129 yards and seven touchdowns on 180 attempts in his three years in Iowa City.
He went on to an all-pro career with the Green Packers and Chicago Bears. After being drafted by the Packers with the 17th overall pick in the 1960 NFL Draft, he went on to play 11 years as an NFL cornerback. He won three NFL Championship rings with the Packers, including Super Bowl I and II.
His remarkable legacy is recognized through induction into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame, the University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame and the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.
