High School — placed third in 3,200 meters at state meet senior year and fifth at state cross country meet as a junior… seven-time conference champion, winning five in track and two in cross country… set school record in outdoor 3,200 meters (8:55.4)… three-time all-conference and all-state… two-time team MVP… team co-captain as a junior and captain as a senior… four-year honor roll student, earning high academic honors as a senior… also participated in band, jazz band, pit orchestra and madrigal brass… coach was Andy Preuss.
Personal — born December 16, 1985… son of Chris MacTaggart and Barbara MacTaggart… his father ran track and cross country at Northern Illinois University… his brother, Bruce, also runs track and cross country at Iowa… attended same high school as Hawkeye teammate Dan Kuhlman… music major.
