IOWA CITY, IA – Hawkeye diver Timo Klami was honored today as the Big Ten Diver of the Week. This marks the third time that former Big Ten champion Klami has received the award. This is the first time he has received the award this season.
The junior from Nodeland, Norway, recorded first-place finishes in the one and two-meter diving events at the Purdue Invitational as well as a third-place finish in the platform competition. Klami posted scores of 547.15 in the preliminaries and a 573.90 in the finals of the three-meter diving competition, which earned him first place honors. In the one-meter competition he led the event after the preliminary round with a score of 307.75, then posted a 313.80 in the finals to clinch his second victory of the weekend. On Sunday, he scored a 410.40 in the platform competition, which was good enough to earn third place.
The Iowa men’s swimming and diving team returns to action when it travels to Vermillion, SD to compete against South Dakota and Truman State on January, 17th.
