hawkeyesports.com visited recently with sophomore guard Crystal Smith. Here’s a piece of that conversation.

What was your first job as a child and did you like it? Did you have any bad jobs you didn’t like growing up?
“My only job was cleaning the house and I did not enjoy it. I had to clean it a couple times a week, but I never had an actual job.”

After playing one year of collegiate basketball, what did you see as the biggest difference between high school and college basketball?
“Toughness. You have to be tough to play at this level.”

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?
“I wouldn’t change anything about myself because I like the way I am.”

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
“I’d like to live overseas because I’d like to see how differently they live from us and what their customs are like.”

What expectations do you have for yourself and the team this year?
“I expect this team to win the regular season Big Ten Championship and the Big Ten Tournament. Individually, I’d like to stay focused throughout the whole year and play the best I can.”

What is your biggest pet peeve?
“People spitting on the ground.”

What makes you laugh?
“Jamie Cavey makes me laugh. She’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”

What is your favorite thing about being a Hawkeye?
“The best part about being a Hawkeye is the fans. It’s amazing how all the people here treat you.”

Do you have any embarrassing moments from last year?
“Yeah, I would always put my shorts on backwards. Not my uniform shorts but my practice shorts. I would never notice but everyone else would.”

If you could guest star on any TV show (past or present), which would it be and why?
“Even Stevens, from the Disney Channel, because he’s just so funny.”

Which person(s) do you most admire and why?
“Coach (Jan) Jansen. She puts in a tremendous amount of work and I really admire all the things she does for us.”

What did you enjoy the most during the 12-day Italy trip this past summer?
“Just being
