The Iowa women’s tennis team defeated Drake, 7-0, during their home opener for the dual season.
In doubles, Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz dominated Annali de Bruyn and Zorana Stefanovic, 8-0. At the No. 2 spot, Deni Alexandrova and Anastasia Zhukova defeated Rebekah Thomas and Eveline Rusdianto, 8-0. The duo of Jennifer Hodgman and Hilary Tyler won number three doubles, 8-3, over Cheen Alkahatib and Izele Van Blerk.
In singles, Racette won the No. 1 match against Bruyn, 6-0, 6-2. Mintz started off slow against Stefanovic before winning, 6-4, 6-0. At the No. 3 spot, Tyler handed Thomas a defeat, 6-0, 6-1. Zhukova won her first singles match as a Hawkeye against Rusdianto, 6-1, 6-1. Alexandrova continued her strong senior season with a win over Alkahatib, 6-0, 6-1.
The Hawkeyes will compete next Saturday, February 7 when they host Marquette beginning at 11 a.m.
