The 16th-ranked Iowa GymHawks finished with the second best team score in school history (196.9), but were unable to knock off No. 6 Utah or No. 12 Washington Friday night. Iowa placed third, with the Utes winning the meet (197.95), the Huskies finishing second (197.55) and Illinois-Chicago placing fourth (195.175).
Iowa struggled on its first event, the beam, finishing with a 48.825. Liz Grajewski tied for ninth (9.825) as the GymHawks’ top score. Iowa then moved to floor, where they scored a 49.45 to move into third place in the team standings.
Senior Alexis Maday tied for first on floor, scoring a 9.95. Maday also tied for third on vault (9.95) and bars (9.925). She finished sixth in the all-around with a 39.45. Stephanie Gran tied for fifth on vault and floor, and placed fifth in the all-around (39.475). On bars, senior Nicole Wong tied for eighth with a career-tying 9.9.
The GymHawks will finish the dual season Friday, March 12, when they travel to Iowa State.
