Washington D.C. – The University of Iowa women’s rowing team tallied 16 points to finish in 10th place at the 17th annual George Washington Invitational Crew Classic Saturday afternoon on the Potomac River in Washington D.C. The U.S. Naval Academy took first place with 65 points. The Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Novice Eight all finished in the top three in the event finals.
The V8+ timed a 6:15.08 to finish second in the qualifying race. Tennessee finished first, edging the Hawkeyes by a little over a second, timing a 6:14.00. The V8+ then went on to take third in the Varsity Eight Final, putting up a time of 6:43.2 and finishing behind Tennessee and USC.
The 2V8+ also took second in the qualifying race, timing a 6:27.15 and finishing behind Tennessee. In the Second Varsity Eight Final, the Hawkeyes took third with a time of 6:59.81, finishing behind USC and Tennessee.
The N8+ finished third in the qualifying race, but went on to take second in the Novice Eight Petite Final. They timed a 7:17.7 to finish behind George Washington, who timed a 7:05.30 for the victory.
The Hawkeyes will travel to Bloomington, IN on April 17 to compete in a Big Ten double dual against Indiana and Ohio State.
