Jamie Cavey led Iowa with 18 points and seven rebounds, and Crystal Smith added 12 points for the Hawkeyes (15-5, 4-5), who have lost five of seven.

Junior guard Shannon Schonrock got Minnesota off to a strong start, hitting three 3-pointers in the first five minutes. The third one erased Iowa’s final lead and triggered an 11-0 run that helped the Gophers pull ahead 20-10. Schonrock finished with 14 points.

Broback later hit a 3-pointer, then went end-to-end with a steal for a layup that pushed the Gophers’ lead to 39-23.

McCarville opened the second half with three quick baskets, and Broback’s second 3-pointer extended the lead to 21. A 13-0 run keyed by six more points from McCarville put away the Hawkeyes midway through the second half.

Iowa, which ranked sixth in the nation in field-goal percentage at 48 percent, shot just 36.2 percent from the floor.
