EVANSTON, IL – The University of Iowa men’s swimming team fell to 14th ranked Northwestern, 171-131. The loss drops Iowa’s record to 3-10 (0-7 Big Ten). Northwestern improves to 5-4 (3-2 Big Ten).
The Hawkeyes had two swimmers and one relay team come away with victories in the second day of competition. Cody Hackney swam a 10:00.41 in the 1,000 freestyle which was good enough for a first place finish. Dragos Agache swam to first in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 56.72. Teammates Cal Shelangoski, Elliot Ptasnik and Paul Divan followed in the three through five positions. The 200 medley relay team of Andrei Ciurca, Cal Shelangoski, Alex Boyce and Bryan Rowland finished first in a time of 1:33.23. Cameron Dye also added a pair of third place finishes in the 50 and 200 freestyle events.
The Hawkeyes will continue competition at the Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis, MN on February 24-26.
