THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team will travel to East Lansing, MI for the Midwest Wilson/ITA Division 1 Regional Championships Thursday through Tuesday. Competition will take place at the Michigan State University Tennis Center. Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, and Krissy Dowlin will begin qualifying play Thursday, while Meg Racette, Mili Veselinovic, Hillary Mintz, and Jacqueline Lee begin competition Friday in the main draw. Doubles teams for Iowa are Racette/Mintz, Veselinovic/Lee, and Berry/Dowlin. Doubles competition also begins Friday.
THE COMPETITION — The Hawkeyes will face players from Ohio State, Northwestern, Indiana, Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette, Illinois-Chicago, Ball State, Cincinatti, DePaul, Toledo, Northern Illinois, IUPU-Ft. Wayne, Indiana State, Akron, Bradley, Notre Dame, Cleveland State, and Detroit.
LAST MEET — Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz began their fall season at the Riveria/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, CA, October 1-9. Racette finished with a 1-2 record, Mintz finished 0-1, and as a doubles team, Racette and Mintz went 0-2. The other members of the team competed at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, AL, October 7-9. Mili Veselinovic compiled a 3-0 tournament record for a win in her flight. Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, and Jacqueline Lee also competed well at singles positions while doubles teams of Beelen/Dowlin posted a 3-0 tournament record and Lee/Veselinovic ended 1-1.
HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan — Coach Greenan begins his second season as head coach for the Hawkeyes. He led the Hawkeyes to a 14-10 overall record in 2005, going 8-4 in Big Ten competition for a fourth place finish in the conference. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fourth season with the Hawkeyes.
