COLUMBUS, OH – The University of Iowa women’s swimming team is in eighth place with 40 points after the first round of the Big Ten Championships being held on the campus of the Ohio State University.

The first event of the Championships was the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Alison Gschwend, Emmy Haeger, Kelly Werner and Katie Martin placed sixth with a time of 1:42.95. The second event of day one was the 800 yard freestyle relay. Finishing with a time of 7:29.62, the team of Erica Noah, Kelly Werner, Emily Hoefler and Karen Kelly placed tenth.

Wisconsin is in first place with 72 points, followed by Minnesota (70) and Michigan (64). Day two of the Championships will continue on Thursday with swimming preliminaries at 11 a.m., diving preliminaries at 1 p.m., and both finals at 7 p.m. Fans can follow the action live at www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com
