LAFAYETTE, LA – The University of Iowa baseball team dropped its first game of the season, 14-9 to Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday afternoon. The Hawkeyes overall record falls to 4-1, and the Ragin’ Cajuns improve to 5-2.

Louisiana-Lafayette roughed up starting pitcher Austin Seward with five runs in the bottom of the second. The Hawkeyes picked up a run in the top of the fifth when Jason White scored on an error by the catcher. However, the Cajuns picked up six more runs in the bottom half of the fifth.

The Hawkeyes picked up five runs in the top of the eighth. Kevin Hoef scored on a Wes Freie triple. Kody McManis and Freie both scored on an error. After pinch-hitting, L.J. Mims scored on another error, along with Considine. The Hawkeyes picked up two runs in the top of the ninth when Freie scored on an error by the centerfielder and Matt Wooldrik scored on a wild pitch.

The Hawkeyes return to action Sunday, when they take on Evansville at 11 a.m. in the Cajun Classic.
