Hawkeyes Place Sixth at Big Ten Championships

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />ST. PAUL, MN – The University of Iowa rowing team competed in the Big Ten Rowing Championships Saturday.  Iowa finished sixth in overall competition and took second place in four petite finals.

 

Rain and 13-15 mile per hour winds were present throughout the day as racing took place on LakePhalen.  The Hawkeyes came in second place in the petite finals of the first and second varsity eight, first varsity four and first novice eight races.  Iowa’s second novice eight boat beat out OhioState in the petite final.  The second varsity four came in third in the petite final. 

 

Ohio State won the Big Ten Championship with 130 points.  Iowa was sixth with 45 points.  The Hawkeyes improved one spot on the seventh place finish of last year. 

 

Iowa’s next competition will be at the Central Regionals.  Racing will be held May 11-14 in Oakridge, TN.
