IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa field hockey team matched up against Kent State Friday afternoon at Grant Field. The Hawkeyes began the game slowly but picked up the pace in the second half where they scored four of their five goals allowing Hawkeyes to defeat the Golden Flashes by a score of 5-1.
Freshman Tricia Dean gave the Hawkeyes an early lead in the first with an unassisted goal at the 2:14 mark. The Golden Flashes evened the score when forward Kate Perry blasted a shot past Hawkeye goalkeeper Lissa Munley. The game stayed tied as the teams headed for halftime.
The Hawkeyes played outstanding during the second half, scoring four goals. Two of the goals came from sophomore Lindsey Duffy, one from sophomore Caitlin McCurdy and the last coming from junior Kadi Sickel.
Iowa out-shot Kent State 30-2 for the game, while holding Kent State to zero shots during the second half. The Hawkeyes also out-corned the Golden Flashes 18-2.
The Hawkeyes return to action Sunday at 1 pm against No. 3 Duke at Grant Field.
