MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The Iowa women’s tennis team completed its second day of competition today at the Gopher Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
In singles competition, Mili Veselinovic and Jacqueline Lee competed against each other, with Lee winning a hard fought match, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7. Lee will play for first place in her flight tomorrow while Veselinovic will play for third place.
Hillary Mintz was defeated today, 6-3, 7-6 (5), by Yana Sadovskaya of BU, while teammate Kayla Berry defeated Maria Ring of Nebraska, 6-2, 6-2. Berry will play for fifth place tomorrow. Freshman Kelcie Klockenga was successful as well today. Klockenga defeated Liz Corrao of BU, 6-3, 6-1, and as a result will be playing for first place in her flight. Jennifer Barnes was defeated by Rebecca Row of BU, 6-0, 6-1, but is still in competition for the third place spot in her flight.
In doubles action, Lee/Mintz were defeated by Josbena/Pratzel of Mizzou, 8-2, but went on to defeat Dalmacio/Hanisch of Wichita State, 8-5, and will continue competition tomorrow. Berry/Klockenga were successful today, defeating Koprivica/Seaton of Minnesota, 9-8 (5), and Abraham/Draganova of BU, 8-6, earning a spot in the championship round of that flight, which will be played tomorrow.
Tomorrow will mark the final day of competition at the Gopher Invitational. Competition will begin at 9 a.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota Campus.
