Tickets to Big Ten Home Games Moving Nicely

Dec. 12, 2006

Tickets to the University of Iowa men’s basketball team’s home game against Indiana are all but gone and fans of the Hawkeyes waiting to purchase single-game tickets to the UI’s home game against Illinois will have to wait until after the holidays, the UI Athletic Ticket Office announced today.

Approximately 200 “singles” – single seats scattered throughout Carver-Hawkeye Arena – are all that remain available for purchase for the Hawkeyes’ date with Indiana on Saturday, Feb. 3, according to David Sandstrum, the UI’s director of ticket operations. Sandstrum also said that single-game tickets – if available – for the Hawkeyes’ game against Illinois on Mar. 3 will go on sale to 2006-07 season ticket holders on Jan. 8 and to the general public on Jan. 11.

Fans interested in tickets to the Iowa-Illinois game can purchase a three-game package that also includes Iowa’s home games against Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 13, and Wisconsin on Sunday, Jan. 28.

“Sales of that three-game package have been very brisk. If our students continue to purchase season tickets – they have the opportunity to do so until the Big Ten season begins – we might not have any tickets available for any of those three games on a single-game basis,” said Sandstrum.

Sales of season tickets to current University of Iowa students are up 42 percent over a year ago with 1,665 students currently members of the Hawks Nest. The UI sold 1,176 season tickets to UI students in 2005-06. “That number will creep up a little bit over the next two weeks as the students who haven’t purchased yet do so in anticipation of the Big Ten season,” said Sandstrum.

Sandstrum said the sale of $10 “Youth Tickets” have been steady for all of the remaining “Youth Basketball Games” on the Hawkeyes’ 2006-07 schedule. Each of Iowa’s next three home games – Wednesday, Dec. 20, against Georgia State, Saturday, Dec. 23, against Texas Southern, and Saturday, Dec. 30, against Cornell – are “Youth Basketball Games”
