Hawkeyes Compete In Texas Longhorn Invitational

AUSTIN, TX –

The University of Iowa rowing team opened its spring season at the Texas Longhorn Invitational. Both novice and varsity teams competed in this three day event against Miami, Central Florida, and Texas.

Friday the Hawkeyes highlighted the day with a defeat over Central Florida (7:11.0) in the first novice eights race finishing in a time of 7:06.

In Saturday’s action the Hawkeyes grabbed a win in both the 1V8+ and the 1N8+. The 1V8+ boat captured the win over Miami (6:51.0) in a time of 6:46.0. Defeating Miami (8:21.0) by almost a full minute Iowa finished in a time of 7:24.0.

Finishing strong in today’s competition the Hawkeyes scored wins over Kansas State in the 1V8+, 2V8+, and 2N8+. In the 1V8+ Iowa defeated Kansas State (7:20.0) finishing in a time of 7:04.0. Finishing over Kansas State (7:42.0) the 2V8+ posted a time of 7:22.2. Grabbing the third win of the day for the Hawkeyes, the 2N8+ finished over Kansas State (8:04.0) in a time of 7:50.0. The first novice eight team continued the theme with a close race where Iowa (7:23.0) was defeated by Kansas State (7:19.0).

The Hawkeyes will return to action March 31st hosting Minnesota, Drake, and Creighton at Lake McBride in Solon, IA.
