COLUMBIA, MO – The University of Iowa women’s track team concluded competition at the Missouri Relays on the campus of the University of Missouri, Saturday night. Senior Peaches Roach and sophomore Renee White each qualified for the NCAA Regional, while senior Tiffany Johnson improved on her Regional qualifying mark.
Roach’s preliminary time of 11.64 in the 100 meters, not only qualified her for the NCAA Regional, it also gave her the fastest time going into the finals. Unfortunately, she was upset in the finals by Nandelle Cameron of Lincoln, MO. Roach finished in second place with a time of 11.71.
White qualified for the Regional meet in the triple jump with a winning leap of 40-7 ¾. Her margin of victory was by more than five inches. The triple jump was not the only event that White excelled in. She set a new collegiate best in the 100 meters with a time of 12.34.
Much like Roach, Johnson went into the finals of the 100 meter hurdles with the fastest time in the field, only to be upset in the finals. Johnson finished in second place with a time of 13.66, improving her regional qualifying time by nearly two tenths of a second.
Four additional Hawkeye student-athletes had very successful outings as well. Megan Clarke, Aditya Jones, Monica Mims and Jessica Schmidt each set new collegiate bests. Clarke set hers in the 100 meters (12.37), Jones (57.77) and Mims (58.03) each in the 400 meters and Schmidt in the 1,500 meters (4:44.56).
