IOWA CITY – Freshman Katie Brown recorded a pinch-hit, two-RBI double to help Iowa defeat Iowa State, 2-1 Tuesday at Pearl Field. The win helped the University of Iowa clinch the 2006-07 Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series.
Sophomore Colleen McGlaughlin doubled in the bottom of the fourth to get things started for Iowa. Sophomore Rachel West followed with a single, moving McGlaughin to third. West then stole second and Brown followed with her second double of the season to give Iowa a 2-0 lead.
Iowa State plated a run in the top of the sixth, but the Hawkeyes held on for the victory.
McGlaughlin and West each collected two hits for Iowa at the plate.
Sophomore Brittany Weil earned her 11th win of the season, throwing four innings of relief. Weil allowed one run on three hits and struck out four. Freshman Amanda Zust started the game and threw three innings and did not allow a hit while striking out five.
Iowa returns to Big Ten action Friday when they travel to Minnesota.
