DURHAM, NC – The 10th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team defeated No. 4 Duke, 2-0, Sunday. Hawkeye goalkeeper, Lissa Munley recorded her second shutout of the season and fifth of her career. Juniors Lindsey Duffy and Lauren Pfeiffer both scored for the Hawkeyes. This win improves Iowa’s record to 2-1.

Early in the first half, the game was back-and-fourth, with both defenses standing strong. In the 19th minute, Duffy received the ball on a break-away then slammed the ball past the Duke goalkeeper, making the score 1-0.

Late in the first half, the Blue Devil offense looked as if they were in control but, were unable to sneak a ball past Munley. In a two minute stint, she saved three Duke shots. Munley finished the game with seven saves, six coming in the first half.

In the 53rd minute, the Hawkeyes were awarded with a penalty corner. Caroline Blaum pushed the ball to Roz Ellis who stopped the ball for Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer blasted the ball into the net accounting for her third goal of the season.

Towards the end of the second half, Duke attempted two shots, both were denied by the Hawkeye defense and the shutout was kept intact.

The Hawkeyes will return to action Monday, against William & Mary at noon (CT) in Durham, NC.
