MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – The third-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team (8-2) earned its fifth shutout of the season Sunday, defeating Central Michigan (0-6) 3-0. For the second consecutive game, junior Lauren Pfeiffer netted two goals, both coming in the first half.

The Hawkeyes scored the first goal during the 24th minute. Pfeiffer took a pass from freshman Chelsea Miller and smashed the ball past the Central Michigan goalkeeper. The assist is Miller’s first point of her collegiate career.

Nine minutes later Pfeiffer struck again by scoring her second of the game and fourth consecutive Hawkeye goal (she scored both Iowa goals in a 3-2 double overtime loss to No. 12 Michigan on Friday). The goal came from the sixth Hawkeye penalty corner. Sophomores Tricia Dean and Jess Werley recorded the assists.

With only seven seconds remaining in the first half, Pfeiffer attempted to record her third goal of the game but was denied by the Central Michigan goalkeeper.

Junior Roz Ellis recorded the third and final Hawkeye goal. During another penalty corner, Ellis received the pass from junior Caroline Blaum and was able to slip the ball past the goalkeeper.

The stiff Iowa defense held Central Michigan to only four shots and only penalty corners, both coming in the second half.

The No. 3 Hawkeyes will return to action Sunday, Sept. 30 at Grant Field against Indiana (5-4, 0-1) at 1 p.m. (CT).
