IOWA CITY, IA – Iowa’s all-time receiving leader, Kevin Kasper, has been selected Iowa’s honorary captain for Saturday’s contest against Minnesota. The Hawkeyes face the Gophers in a televised game with kickoff set for 11:07 a.m. in sold out Kinnick Stadium.

Kasper, a 6-1, 190-pound wide-receiver from Burr Ridge, IL, was a three-time letterman (1998-2000) with the Hawkeyes. He served as Iowa’s co-captain and co-Most Valuable Player as a senior. Kasper was also a three-time Academic all-Big Ten selection.

Kasper led Iowa in receiving as a junior (60 catches, 664 yards, 3 TD’s) and senior (82, 1,010, 7 TD’s). He is Iowa’s career leader in receptions with 157 and his 82 catches in 2000 is an all-time Hawkeye best. His 13 receptions against Ohio State, in 1999, is Iowa’s best single game performance. During his career he caught 157 passes for 1,974 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Kasper was drafted in the sixth round of the 2001 National Football League draft by the Denver Broncos. He played six seasons in the NFL with the Broncos, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals and, most recently, the Detroit Lions. He won a Super Bowl ring with the 2005 Patriots.

Kasper will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin-flip. He will also be with the Hawkeyes on the sidelines and in the locker room before and after the game.
