The University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team was defeated by the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday at the UI Fieldhouse. The Hawkeyes scored a team total of 338.600, while the Wolverines posted 341.950.
The Hawkeyes came out strong placing in the top three in each event and capturing three first place finishes.
Freshman Ben Ketelsen placed first in the all-around with a total score of 82.40, and was the winner of floor exercise, scoring 14.95. Ketelsen also placed second in the vault with a score of 15.50 and second on the horizontal bar, scoring 13.90. The other first place finish when to Jonathon Buese in parallel bars with a score of 14.60, giving him a season high in the event. Reid Urbain, Jacob Becker and Dustin Cranmer all placed in the top three during the competition.
Iowa will travel to Las Vegas to compete in the Winter Cup Feb. 7-9. Session one begins at 2 p.m. and session two is at 8 p.m. each day.
