GymHawks Release 2008-09 Schedule

Sept. 19, 2008

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team has announced its schedule for the 2008-09 season. The announcement came Friday afternoon from Head Coach Larissa Libby.

“I think our schedule is challenging,” Libby said. “We will have an opportunity to compete against some of the best gymnastics teams in the country.”

The Gymhawks are scheduled to compete in 11 meets, five of which will be held in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes have home matches scheduled against LSU and Southeast Missouri State (Jan. 9), Central Michigan and Texas Woman’s University (Jan. 31), Maryland (Feb. 28) and Kentucky (March 6).

Iowa will compete against in-state rival Iowa State twice in 2009, the first of which is scheduled for Feb. 12 in Ames. The two teams meet again four days later (Feb. 16) in Iowa City. One point in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series will be on the line in both meets.

All four of Iowa’s Big Ten meets are on the road this season. They visit Michigan State (Jan. 17), Illinois (Jan. 24), Ohio State (Feb. 7) and Minnesota (March 14).

“We are going to go to four Big Ten schools, all of whom gave us tough competition last year,” Libby said. “I think it will be a good test for our squad to see where we fit in the Big Ten.”

Iowa will also host the NCAA Regional Championships for the first time in school history, with teams from the North Central region competing in Carver-Hawkeye Arena April 4, 2009.

“We are all very excited about this great opportunity,” Libby said. “We’re ecstatic that Regionals will be at home in front of all our Hawkeye fans.”

The season kicks off with the annual Black and Gold meet Dec. 6.
