IOWA CITY, Iowa – – Iowa’s overtime win over Oklahoma in the 1987 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and a double overtime win at Indiana during the 2004 regular season rank among the Big Ten Conference “Greatest Games” being aired on the Big Ten Network. In all, 16 new classics will debut during the course of the current basketball season.
The Greatest Games schedule features five Big Ten national championships, including Indiana’s title games in 1981 and 1987, Michigan’s championship game in 1989 and Michigan State’s titles in 1979 and 2000. Additional games from the NCAA Elite Eight and Sweet 16 will air throughout the winter, as will memorable regular season classics.
The Hawkeyes placed five players in double figures in the win at Indiana, which can be seen on the Big Ten Network at 7 p.m. CT on Feb. 3. Jeff Horner’s basket from the lane with two seconds left in the second overtime provided Iowa’s winning margin over the Hoosiers.
Iowa’s 1987 NCAA Tournament victory over Oklahoma will air on the Big Ten Network at 7 p.m. CT on Feb. 24. Iowa’s Kevin Gamble hit a shot from the top of the key with one second remaining to lift the Hawkeyes to the Elite Eight in Seattle.
Another contest featuring Iowa basketball, a 75-74 overtime loss at Northwestern during the 2004-05 season, premiered on Dec. 1. That contest can be seen again at 11 a.m. CT Feb. 28.
“When fans get together and reminisce about their teams’ great moments, these are the games they talk about,” Big Ten Network President Mark Silverman said.
Many episodes of The Big Ten’s Greatest Games will include insight and memories from legendary players and coaches, along with reporters who were on hand to cover the event.
