IOWA CITY, IA – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team lost to No. 2 Ohio State Friday, 6-1, at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The 73rd-ranked Hawkeyes fall to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the loss.
“Ohio State proved why they are the No. 2 team in the country,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton. “Having said that, I am particularly pleased with Will Vasos having won at No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles. We played them tougher than the final score indicated.”
The Hawkeyes, 3-1 at home, were unable to claim the doubles point. The duo of Tommy McGeorge and Vasos claimed a victory for Iowa at the No. 1 spot. The pair defeated Shuhei Uzawa and Matt Allare, 8-6. McGeorge and Vasos are now 10-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Vasos also won in singles competition. The sophomore downed No. 113 Uzawa, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5, at the No. 4 position. Vasos is 10-5 in singles competition.
The Black and Gold return to action Sunday against No. 58 Penn State. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Admission is free.
