Former Hawkeyes Having Success in Minors

IOWA CITY, IA – Four former Iowa baseball players are having success in the minor leagues this summer.

Pitcher Steve Turnbull (2006-09), is having a terrific season for the Lansing Lugnuts (A) in the Midwest League. The 6-3 fire-baller has appeared in 27 games, recording 16 saves and 26 strikeouts.

Utility player Dusty Napoleon (2005-07), who was a team co-MVP in 2007, has played for four minor league teams in the Oakland Athletics organization this summer having played for Kane County (A), Stockton (A+), Midland (AA) and Sacramento (AAA). Napoleon has played in 17 games this summer in the minors producing an on-base percentage of .414 bolstered by 16 walks.

Relief pitcher Mike Schurz (2007-09) has played for Lexington (A) and Lancaster (A+) this summer. Schurz has seen action in 19 games, amassing 23 strikeouts.

Infielder Justin Toole will make his Kinston (A+) debut tomorrow in North Carolina. Toole was a three-time third team all-Big Ten selection (2007-09) and two-time team co-MVP (2008-09) for the Hawkeyes.
