IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa women’s track and field team has earned academic honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the sixth straight season. The Hawkeye women’s team posted a team GPA of 3.22 during the 2010 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Iowa’s academic performance earned a nomination for the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award. The award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with the top honor going to the team that had the combination of best overall finish at the respective Division I Indoor or Outdoor National Championships and cumulative GPA.
“This marks the sixth consecutive year that the Hawkeyes have attained the standard of excellence required to earn this recognition,” said Head Coach Layne Anderson. “This is truly a team award and a testament to the commitment to academics at the University of Iowa.”
The Iowa squad is one of 151 Division I women’s track and field programs to be recognized as a 2010 USTFCCCA All-Academic team. Eight Big Ten teams earned academic recognition, including Penn State, who was named Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year.
Iowa junior Amanda Hardesty, sophomore Tiffany Medenwalt, sophomore McKenzie Melander and junior Bethany Praska were all named to the USTFCCCA all-academic individual squads last week.
