Iowa Cracks Top-20 of Golf World/Nike Poll

Oct. 4, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s golf team is ranked 19th in the second Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches’ Poll of the fall season. The Hawkeyes entered the top-25 with 163 votes, which combine resources from Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results will appear in the Oct. 4 issue of Golf World.

“It’s nice to see our hard work paying off, but it’s early in the season,” said Head Coach Mark Hankins. “What’s really important is where we end up at the end of the season.”

The Hawkeyes, who have won their last two tournaments by a combined 21 strokes, will travel to Durham, N.C., for the Rod Myers/Duke Invitational Oct. 10-11. The Blue Devils, ranked 16th in Golf World/Nike Golf’s rankings, will host a field that should prove to be one of the toughest for Iowa this fall.

“We’ll keep working hard in order to continue toward our long-term goals,” added Hankins. “Hard work and focus will be keys to our success.”
