IOWA CITY, Iowa – THE SETTING
The University of Iowa women’s basketball team hosts Michigan Sunday in its first home Big Ten game of the 2010-11 season. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
Single-game tickets are $9 for adults. Youth (18 and under) tickets are $5 for weekend games.
ON YOUR TELEVISION
Sunday’s game will be televised live to a national audience on the Big Ten Network (HD). Dan Kelly and Vera Jones will call the action.

IOWA HISTORY
Iowa has played 1,048 games, since beginning basketball in 1974. Iowa’s overall record is 641-408 (.612). That includes a 318-159 (.667) mark in regular season Big Ten contests and a 303-87 (.777) mark in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
WIN NO. 300 AT HOME
The UI women’s basketball program picked up victory No. 300 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena with a 90-79 win over Central Michigan Nov. 21. The Hawkeyes have compiled a 303-87 (.777) record inside their home venue since it opened in 1983.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
The Michigan Wolverines are 8-5 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten play.
In their last game, the Wolverines upset No. 12 Ohio State, 64-51, in Ann Arbor. Michigan limited Ohio State to a .274 (17-62) field goal percentage, including .133 (2-15) from three-point distance. Veronica Hicks and Carmen Reynolds each had 17 points in the win, while Hicks added a team-best eight rebounds.
Hicks leads the team with 10.8 points per game. Reynolds is next at 10.7 points per contest. Jenny Ryan is the team’s leading rebounder at 5.2 boards per game.
As a team, Michigan is shooting .447 (313-700) from the field, including .330 (97-294) from three-point distance.
MICHIGAN VS. IOWA NOTES
? Iowa leads the all-time series, 41-13. The Hawkeyes have won 12 of the previous 15 contests, with Michigan winning both games last season. Iowa won 21-straight contests from 1985-96. The Hawkeyes are 21-5 against Michigan in Iowa City.
? Iowa Assistant Coach Shannon Gage served as an assistant coach at Michigan from 2005-07.
? Both Iowa and Michigan played Iowa State during non-conference action. Iowa State defeated Michigan, 60-47, as a part of the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge. The Hawkeyes knocked off the Cyclones, 62-40.
LAST MEETING
Iowa dropped a 63-46 decision at Michigan Jan. 7 last season.
Three Hawkeyes scored in double figures, including Jaime Printy (12), Kamille Wahlin (10) and Kachine Alexander (10). Alexander also collected 12 rebounds for a double-double.
The Hawkeyes could never grab a lead in the game, and trailed by 18 points at halftime. Iowa came out firing in the second half, using a 14-5 run to cut the deficit to nine, but that was as close as the Hawkeyes could get.
IOWA IN THE RANKINGS
The Hawkeyes are ranked No. 14 in the AP and No. 13 in the ESPN/USA Today top 25.
Four Iowa opponents are also ranked in the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls: North Carolina (10/10), Michigan State (12/16), Ohio State (13/12) and Iowa State (20/21).
Northwestern is receiving votes.
HIGHEST RANKING UNDER BLUDER
Iowa’s No. 14 ranking in the Associated Press poll is the highest ranking for a Hawkeye team under Head Coach Lisa Bluder and the highest since Nov. 17, 1997 (11th). Bluder led her to a No. 16 ranking in the AP poll in 2001.
The No. 13 ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll ranking is also the highest under Bluder (previous high was No. 17 in 2005). This is the highest Iowa has been ranked in the coaches poll since a No. 12 preseason ranking in 1997.
HAWKEYES STUMBLE AT PENN STATE
Iowa opened Big Ten play with a 68-59 loss at Penn State Dec. 30.
The two teams were tied at 34 at halftime, but Iowa gained a seven-point lead in the second half. Penn State closed the game with a 20-4 run in the final 6:33 to seal the win. During the run, Iowa went 0-8 from the floor.
Jaime Printy led Iowa with 17 points. Kelly Krei added 14 and Kamille Wahlin chipped in 11.
TOUGH AT HOME
The Hawkeyes have won 12-straight home games, dating back to last season. Iowa’s last loss at Carver-Hawkeye Arena was Jan. 14, 2010 (68-62 to Penn State).
The Hawkeyes are a perfect 6-0 this season at home.
KASH CLOSE TO A GRAND
Kachine Alexander is close to becoming the 27th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
Alexander needs just 16 more points to hit the 1,000 mark. She currently has 984 points.
BLUDER REACHES MILESTONE
With a 75-71 win at Drake Dec. 20, Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder became only the second coach in school history to reach the 200-win milestone.
Bluder currently has 201 wins in her 11 years at Iowa. C. Vivian Stringer is the only other Hawkeye head coach to reach the 200-win plateau at Iowa, finishing her time in Iowa City with 269 wins.
Ohio State Head Coach Jim Foster is the only other active Big Ten coach to have reached 200 wins at his/her current school.
HAWKEYES DOMINATING THE PAINT
Iowa is racking up the points in the lane through 14 games.
The Hawkeyes have scored 20 or more paint points in all but one game (Bradley, 16) this season and have netted 30 or more points seven times. Iowa has outscored its opponents, 404-352 in the paint so far and the Hawkeyes are averaging 28.9 points in the paint per game.
Iowa has recorded more paint points than its opponents in 10 games this season.
AT THE CHARITY STRIPE
Iowa currently leads the Big Ten with a .779 free throw percentage. Jaime Printy ranks second in the league at .927 (38-41).
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK
Iowa is the only team in the Big Ten to have five players ranked among the top 30 scorers in the league.
Northwestern, Penn State and Ohio State each have four players ranked. Wisconsin has three and the remaining six schools have either two or one.
The Hawkeyes have had at least three players reach double figures in scoring in all 14 games this year. Five players scored 10 or more points against Bradley. Four players hit double digits against Northeastern, Central Michigan and Kansas State.
HAWKEYES HITTING THE BOARDS
Iowa’s rebounding numbers through its first 14 games are impressive. The Hawkeyes lead the Big Ten in total rebounding (43.2 per game), rank second in defensive rebounding (29 per game) and rebounding margin (+6.8 per game) and third in offensive rebounding (14.2).
Morgan Johnson ranks second in offensive rebounding (3.3 per game) and Kachine Alexander ranks fourth (31 per game). Alexander’s 18 rebounds against Central Michigan, Nov. 21, are tied for the most by any Big Ten player this season.
TOP FIVE IN THE BIG TEN
Four of Iowa’s starters rank in the top five in the Big Ten in different statistical categories.
? Morgan Johnson ranks second in offensive rebounding (3.3 per game) and blocks (2.4 per game).
? Kachine Alexander ranks fourth in total rebounding (8.8 per game) and offensive rebounding (3.1 per game).
? Jaime Printy ranks second in free throw percentage (.927) and third in three-pointers made (2.2 per game).
? Kamille Wahlin ranks fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.4).
MOVING UP CAREER CHARTS
Four Hawkeyes are currently working their way up the career records lists at Iowa.
? Kachine Alexander ranks second in career double-doubles (27), ninth in career rebounding (738), 13th in career assists (268) and 27th in career scoring (984). She needs eight more rebounds to move past Randi Peterson for eighth place on the rebounding list and 12 assists to move past Laurie Aaron and Necole Tunsil into 12th on the assists list. She needs nine more double-doubles to take over first place (Lisa Long, 35).
? Morgan Johnson ranks fifth in career blocks (113) and needs two more to move past Jennie Lillis into fourth place.
? Kamille Wahlin ranks sixth in career three-pointers made (135) and needs two more to move past Kristi Faulkner into fifth place.
