SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Iowa Track and Field team sent 10 athletes to compete in four different events at the Meyo Invitational this weekend. Graduate student Mareike Schrulle led the Hawkeyes with a personal best performance in the 3,000 meters.
Schrulle led the Hawkeyes in the 3,000-meter invite. The graduate student ran to a second place finish with a personal best time of 9:23.97. That time ranks seventh all-time at Iowa. Seniors Brooke Eilers and McKenzie Melander also competed in the 3000-meter invite. Eilers finished sixth with a time of 9:33.97, while Melander crossed the line in 9:52.00 to finish 18th.
Ashley Liverpool had a solid day in the 400 meters. The sophomore came in fifth with a time of 54.82.
“I thought all in all we had a solid outing,” said head coach Layne Anderson. “Marieke Schrulle had another solid performance in the 3,000 meters and Ashley Liverpool keeps improving on her time in the 400 meters.”
Betsy Flood competed in the Meyo Mile. The senior finished 13th crossing the line in 4:57.43.
All-American Jeff Thode represented the Hawkeye men in the Meyo Mile. The junior finished ninth with a time of 4:08.06.
The Hawkeyes will return to action Feb. 10-11 at the Tyson Invite in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Cyclone Classic in Ames, Iowa.
