QUOTING HEAD COACH Megan Menzel
“We are looking forward to playing at Ocotillo. We have heard that it is an outstanding golf course and will be a fun challenge for our games. With our weather being so warm this week and our golf courses in such great shape we have been able to get out and play a lot of holes. The last time we were in Arizona we were fortunate to play in front of a lot of Hawkeye fans and that meant a lot to our players. I know it will be a similar situation this week and our players are eager to compete in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic”

THE LINEUP
Iowa will debut a new lineup at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. Senior Chelsea Harris, junior Kristi Cardwell, sophomore Karly Grouwinkel and freshmen Shelby Phillips and Lauren English will compete for the Hawkeyes. Grouwinkel is in the Hawkeye lineup for the first time in her career.

THE COMPETITION
Iowa will be joined by host Wyoming, Boise State, Colorado State, Creighton, Eastern Washington, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Seattle, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, Utah Valley, UTEP, Weber State, Wichita State and Xavier. The field includes the defending team champion, Portland State, and individual champion, Britney Yada (Portland State). Yada won last year’s event with a three-under 213 (71-70-72).

PHILLIPS RETURNS HOME
Freshman Shelby Phillips will be right at home at the Ocotillo Golf Resort. The Chandler, Ariz., native was a standout at Highland High School, as she placed four-times at the Arizona 5A-1 State Championship. Phillips will play in her home state for the second time this spring. The Hawkeyes played at the Westbrook Spring Invitational on Feb. 26-27 in Peoria, Ariz. Phillips carded a season-best 54-hole score of 227 at the event.

HARRIS SETS CAREER-BEST
Senior Chelsea Harris finished in a career-best second place tie with a 148 (72-76, +4) at the Saluki Invitational on March 25-26. Harris bested a fourth place finish at the Hawkeye Invitational on Aug. 18-19, 2010. It was Harris’ second-straight top-10 finish. The Normal, Ill., native finished tied for ninth at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on March 13-14.

CARDWELL COLLECTS TOP-10 FINISH
