DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Iowa track and field team competed in day two of the NCAA Championships Thursday. Junior Matt Byers recorded a season best throw in the javelin and narrowly missed a chance to move on to the finals portion of the competition.
In his first appearance in the NCAA Championships, Byers recorded a season best mark of 237-6 (72.39m) in the javelin. The toss earned him a 10th place finish.
“Matt Byers was certainly one of the highlights today,” said director of track and field Larry Wieczorek. “Reaching his season best mark was a good way to end his season. We look forward to seeing him compete next year.”
Junior Justin Austin competed in the 200 meters. Austin crossed the line in 20.70 to finish 13th.
Ethan Holmes clocked a time of 13.93 in the 110-meter hurdles. The junior finished sixth in his heat and 19th overall.
Seniors Matt Banse (hammer throw), Troy Doris (triple jump), and Erik Sowinski (800 meters) will all compete tomorrow in day three of the NCAA Championships. Action is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
