DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Iowa track and field team wrapped up competition at the NCAA Championships Saturday. McKenzie Melander competed in the 5,000 meters for the Black and Gold.
Melander battled the heat to capture a 14th place finish in the 5,000 meters. The senior clocked a time of 16:44.78 in her first appearance at the NCAA Championship Finals.
“I thought McKenzie ran well in spite of the elements,” said head track and field coach Layne Anderson. “I thought it was an outstanding finish to a great career.”
The Hawkeyes concluded the NCAA Championships with four top-15 finishers. Those athletes include Erik Sowinsk (2nd; 800 meters), Troy Doris (5th; triple jump), Matt Byers (10th; javelin) and Melander.
