TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Iowa track and field senior Kyle Reid broke the men’s decathlon school record at the Jim Click Shootout on Friday. The multi-event competition was held at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Ariz.
Reid tallied a school-record setting point total of 7,025 to earn fourth-place in the men’s decathlon. He took third in the 1,500 meters when he crossed the line in 4:37.83. The senior earned a second-place finish in the pole vault (15-9; 4.80m), while he ran to a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.16). Reid also recorded a 15th place finish in the discus with a toss of 106-7 (32.48m).
Jack Eckert also competed in the men’s decathlon. The junior finished seventh in the competition with a total of 6,727 points. Eckert took the title in the 1,500 meters when he crossed the line in 4:33.42. Eckert earned a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (14-9; 4.50m), and a fifth-place finish in the javelin (186-4; 56.80m). He finished 10th in the 110-meter hurdles when he crossed the line 15.58. Eckert also recorded a discus toss of 86-3 (26.28m) to finish 17th.
Sarah Ryan finished 12th overall (4,567 points) in the women’s heptathlon. The sophomore recorded an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 17-8 (5.83m), while she finished 15th in the javelin with a toss of 83-2 (25.26m). Ryan also ran to a ninth-place finish in the 800 meters when she crossed the line in 2:27.04.
The Jim Click Shootout will resume Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT).
