Austin to Represent Team USA

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa All-American Justin Austin is one of 16 athletes representing Team USA at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia, on July 6-17. Austin will compete in the 200 meters and 400-meter relay. He met qualifying standards in both events at the 2013 NCAA Championships.

Austin, a five-time Big Ten champion and two-time conference athlete of the year, runs the 200 meters Tuesday, July 9, and the 400-meter relay Thursday, July 11.

Team USA is led by South Carolina head coach Curtis Frye and Southern Illinois head coach Connie Price-Smith.

Austin, a five-time Big Ten champion and two-time conference athlete of the year, is joined on the men’s team by Gavin Sam Kendricks (pole vault), Joe Kovacs (shot put), Ahmed Ali (100m, 4x100m), Mike Woepse (pole vault), Derrick Vicars (shot put, discus), and Montez Blair (high jump).

The women’s roster includes Vashti Mary Thomas (100m hurdles, long jump, 4x100m), Aurieyall Scott (200m, 4x100m), Jeneva Mccall (hammer throw, shot put), Jade Barber (100m hurdles, 4x100m), Tristie Johnson (200m, 4x100m), Felisha Johnson (shot put), Landria Buckley (400m hurdles), Nicole Schappert (1500m), and Briana Nelson (400m).

ESPN will provide more than 40 hours of coverage throughout the University Games on ESPNU, and an additional 250 hours on ESPN3.
