IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa wrestlers Sammy Brooks and Thomas Gilman will represent Team USA at the Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Aug. 13-18.
Both Hawkeyes earned a spot on the men’s freestyle team following titles at the 2013 World Team Trials in Stillwater, Okla., last month.
Gilman, who earned a bye to the final round of the 55 kg bracket, swept Nathan Tomasello 6-1, 7-2, in the championship finals. Brooks battled through the challenge tournament before sweeping top-seeded Vic Avery in the 84 kg finals, 6-0, 9-4.
