Trost Clocks Personal Best at European Athletics Junior Championships

July 22, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Incoming University of Iowa freshman Katharina Trost ran to a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters at the 22nd European Athletics Junior Championships this weekend. The event was held at the Raul Guidobaldi Stadium in Rieti, Italy, July 18-21. Trost is one of 26 recruits expected to join the Hawkeyes this fall.

Trost posted a lifetime best of 2:03.59 in the 800 meters semi-final race. That time would be a new Iowa school record. The current 800 meters school record (2:03.78) was set in 2011 by former Hawkeye All-American Bethany Praska. Trost clocked a time of 2:04.34 in the finals to lock in a fifth-place overall finish.

“Katharina had a wonderful opportunity to represent Germany in international competition for the first time and she took full advantage,” said head track and field coach Layne Anderson. “She will arrive on campus in a few weeks with a lot of great momentum and what we anticipate will be great Hawkeye academic and athletic journey for her.”
