IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team defeated Iowa Central Community College, 10-1, in 14 innings on Wednesday at Banks Field. The Hawkeyes led 5-1 through nine innings before out scoring the Tritons, 5-0, over the final five frames.

Junior Jake Yacinich drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to plate sophomore Nick Roscetti, giving Iowa the lead in the sixth inning. Yacinich reached base three times, going 1-for-1 with two walks.

Senior Trevor Kenyon paced Iowa at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI double, while senior Taylor Zeutenhorst was 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Zeutenhorst hit an opposite field home run in the fifth to knock in the team’s first run.

Junior Sasha Kuebel tossed three scoreless innings to open the game. The southpaw allowed two hits, walked none and had four strikeouts. Four relief pitchers — Tyler Peyton, Tyler Radtke, Nick Hibbing and Blake Hickman — finished off the game.

The Hawkeyes jumped out to a quick start over the second five innings, pushing four runs across the plate in the top of the first. The team then plated its fifth run in the second inning.

Junior Jake Riffice and Kenyon paced Iowa at the plate, each collecting two hits. Riffice went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Kenyon was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sophomore John Barrett was 1-for-3 with a two-run single.

The quartet of Andrew Hedrick, Ryan Rumpf, Jacob Sharp and Brandon Shulista allowed a single hit in five innings. Shulista pitched two frames against his former team, finishing with three strikeouts.

Iowa will play its final fall ball game Oct. 9, hosting Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) at 3:30 p.m. (CT) at Banks Field.
