IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team completed day two of action at the ITA Central Regionals held on the campus of the University of Oklahoma today.
After a first round bye in the doubles main draw, the No. 28-ranked duo in the country of Ruth Seaborne and Morven McCulloch earned two victories before being defeated in the quarterfinals. The Hawkeye duo fell to Oklahoma’s Hermon Brhane and Zita Engbrooks, 8-6.
Following a first round victory over Minnesota’s Kendall Heitzner and Paula Rincon-Otero, 8-5, juniors Katie Zordani and Shelby Talcott were defeated in the second round by Emma Devine and Morgan Chumney of Oklahoma, 8-1.
“We competed very well at times today and ran into good teams that we needed to play complete matches against to win,” said UI’s head coach Katie Dougherty.
Due to thunderstorms, there were no singles matches played today. They will resume tomorrow at 9 a.m. (CT)
“There is a lot more tennis and opportunities ahead of us tomorrow in the singles draw,” said Dougherty.
