IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball program released its 2014 schedule this week. Of the 49 scheduled competitions, 16 games will be played at home on Bob Pearl Field in Iowa City.
Iowa opens its regular season on the road at the Carolina Classic hosted by the University of South Carolina on Feb. 7-9. The Hawkeyes face UNC Greensboro, Presbyterian, Ohio, and tournament host South Carolina in the three-day event.
The Hawkeyes travel to Waco, Texas to take part in the University of Baylor’s Getterman Classic the following weekend, Feb. 14-16. The three-day tournament will feature match-ups with Lipscomb, East Carolina, UAB, Baylor, and Drake.
The team’s road swing continues with a three-game series against Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss., on Feb. 21-23, and the University of Arizona Tournament on Feb. 28-March 2. Iowa will play Valparaiso, Arizona, Texas-Arlington, and Longwood in the three-day tournament.
Iowa heads to Texas for a three-game series against the Longhorns on March 15-17, and closes out its non-conference slate with a single game at Texas State on March 19.
The Hawkeyes begin the Big Ten season with a pair of three-game stretches at Illinois on March 21-23, and at Wisconsin on March 28-30, before returning to Bob Pearl Field for their Iowa City debut against in-state foe Drake on April 2.
Iowa hosts its first Big Ten opponents in Iowa City with a three-game series against Northwestern on April 4-6 and a double header against Minnesota on April 9. A three-game conference series at Nebraska on April 11-13 follows the home stand.
The team returns to Iowa City for a non-conference double header against Missouri on April 16, and remains in town for a conference series against Michigan State on April 18-20.
The Hawkeyes face Iowa State on April 23 in Ames, Iowa in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series before heading to Indiana for a three-game series on April 25-27.
Iowa closes the 2014 season at home with single games against Western Illinois on April 29 and Northern Iowa on April 30, and a three-game Big Ten series against Ohio State on May 2-4.
The 2014 Big Ten Tournament is scheduled for May 8-11 and will be hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. NCAA Regionals are scheduled to begin on May 15.
