IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team capped off its home season Friday night inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, defeating Western Illinois 123-83.

Before competition began, nine seniors, , , , , , , , , and , were honored for their contributions to the women’s swimming and diving program.

“They say four years go fast, and it certainly has. I am real proud of this bunch,” said UI head coach Marc Long. “They have worked hard, have continued to swim faster, and are leaving a legacy of building this program up. They have a lot to be proud of.”

Iowa recorded first and second place finishes in all 10 events Friday evening, while posting eight 1-2-3-4 finishes. In a fun way to end the season, the two teams swam four events, the 100-IM, 50-fly, 50-back, and 50-breast, that are not normally swum in collegiate meets.

Iowa dominated the meet from the start, claiming the 400-medley relay. The quartet of Seemann, freshman , sophomore , and freshman raced to first in 3:53.22.

Individually, Tuchscherer and junior posted two victories each. Tuchscherer touched out in 24.42 to claim the 50-free, while finishing in 52.88 to claim the 100-free. Stoughton claimed the 200-free in 1:53.21, while touching out in 27.38 to win the 50-back. Iowa also received victories from sophomore (100-IM), sophomore (50-fly), junior (500-free), and Sougstad (50-breast).

Iowa wrapped up the competition with a 1-2-3-5 finish in the 200-free relay. Sophomore , freshman , Kabacinski, and Sougstad raced to first when they touched out in 1:36.85.

In the diving well, Grilli picked up a pair of victories, as she claimed the 1-meter springboard (303.15) and 3-meter springboard (319.05) titles. Freshmen and dueled eachother on the platform, with Lehnert prevailing 251.25-239.48.

Iowa’s nine dual wins this season rank as the second-most wins under head coach Marc Long, and the second most victories for the program since 1984-85 (13-2).

Iowa returns to the pool for the 2014 Big Ten Championships. The University of Minnesota will serve as this year’s host for the championships, taking place Feb. 19-22.
