IOWA CITY, Iowa — There were pros and cons when the University of Iowa opened fall football camp while a week remained of summer school classes.
Pro: The Hawkeyes worked out just once a day for the first five practices.
Con: All five practices began at 7 p.m. (CT).

“It’s a big adjustment, but the guys have to get a lot of rest — sleep during in during the day and then come in for meetings,” said UI senior wide receiver Kevonte Martin-Manley. “It’s been good work overall.”
Martin-Manley has 122 receptions and 10 touchdowns in his first three seasons. Last season he returned 20 punts for an average of 15.7 yards per punt and two more scores.
The Hawkeyes were in full pads Friday; Martin-Manley said it provided more of a game feel.
“It feels like football a little bit.”
Iowa returns to practice Saturday with its first two-a-day of camp.
“Things are going to start coming at us faster,” Martin-Manley said.
As a senior leader among receivers, Martin-Manley said he has focused on leading by example: working hard, keeping a positive attitude, and making plays.
