BATON ROUGE, La. — Three Hawkeyes finished in the top 25 of the 75-player field at the annual David Toms Intercollegiate to lead the University of Iowa men’s golf team to a fourth place finish. Iowa notched a 10-over-par 298 in Sunday’s final round and finished with an 890 (+26) on 54 holes. The two-day tournament, hosted by LSU, was played at LSU’s University Club.

LSU won the team race (E; 864), followed by Kansas State (+16; 880) and Liberty (+22; 886). Eric Ricard of LSU was the tournament medalist at 10-under-par (206; 73, 65, 68).

Of the three Hawkeyes that finished in the top 25 was junior Carson Schaake, who led the way for Iowa with a fourth place finish — his best finish of the year. The Omaha, Nebraska, native shot two-over-par in Sunday’s final round, recording four birdies in the process. Schaake carded a 69 and a 73 in Saturday’s first and second rounds.

Senior Nate Yankovich finished tied for 12th at six-over-par (222; 72, 76, 74), while fellow senior Voromate Aussarassakorn finished tied for 24th at 11-over-par (227; 74, 78, 75). Yankovich has finished in the top 20 in all three tournaments he has competed in this fall.

Freshman Matthew Walker and junior Raymond Knoll finished tied for 28th and 39th, respectively. Walker recorded rounds of 77, 76, and 75 for a 54-hole 228 (+12). After firing a 78 and 75 in the first and second rounds, Knoll carded a 78 in Sunday’s final round to finish 15-over-par (231)

Iowa returns to action Oct. 16-18 when it travels to Atlanta for the U.S. Collegiate Championship.
