CHICAGO, Illinois – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team defeated the University of Illinois-Chicago, 6-1, at the XS Tennis Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Iowa won the doubles point to start the match. The doubles combination of Anastasia Reimchen and Kristen Thoms defeated Oana Manole and Rachel Comber, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot. Natalie Looney and Aimee Tarun defeated Jackie Altansarnai and Bianca Zuzu, 6-0, to capture the doubles point.
“We got off to a good start with doubles and carried that momentum into singles,” said UI head coach Katie Dougherty. “We had a number of tight sets that we were able to close out and played better in second sets.”

Five Hawkeyes won singles matches to capture the road win. Anastasia Reimchen defeated Jackie Altansarnai at the No. 1 singles spot, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Kristen Thoms defeated Ann-Sophie Hahn, 7-5, 6-2. Zoe Douglas won, 7-5, 6-4 over Oana Manole on court No. 3 for the Hawkeyes.
Melika Leblanc defeated Iowa’s Aimee Tarun, 6-4, 6-4, bringing Iowa’s only loss for the day. Adorabol Huckleby defeated Rachel Le Comber of UIC, 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Montana Crawford won, 6-4, 6-2, over Bianca Zuzu at the No. 6 spot for the Hawkeyes.
“UIC came out strong in singles and are tough to play at their pace,” said Dougherty. “The team did a great job competing today and we’re ready to play a strong DePaul team tomorrow.”
The Hawkeyes return to the court Sunday afternoon facing DePaul University at 1 p.m. (CT) in Chicago, Illinois.
